August 14, 2008
Coffee Talk, 724 Main St., will have a benefit auction for the Eudora Youth Service Organization Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The EYSO was founded in 1974 and consists of Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H. For more than 30 years, EYSO maintained Salem Chapel on Church Street and provided utilities for its use.
Soon after the Eudora United Methodist Church sold the building, members of the EYSO an aluminum-recycling trailer at the C&S Market to raise money for a new building.
Current Coffee Talk barista and former Boy Scout Kris Thom, who moved to Eudora from Clarmore, Okla., in May, came up with the idea for the benefit when he heard the Boy Scouts and the EYSO were trying raise.
"Every business can't always just be about money, it's also about being part of your community," Thom said. "Coffee houses go well with charity events like that."
There will be two auctions - one of them a silent auction and one a live auction that will occur from 3 to 4 p.m. - as well as music and refreshments.
Artists have donated paintings, drawings, jewelry and clothing
Tickets to the event are $5 and can be purchased from any of the organizations.
