City hires interim city administrator
The Eudora City Council at a meeting Wednesday night unanimously voted to hire former Lawrence city manager Mike Wildgen as interim city administrator.
Wildgen, who worked for the city of Lawrence for about 32 years with 16 of those as city manager, had been in talks with the city since May 12. He will be paid $2,500 a month and will remain with the city until it finds a permanent city administrator.
Though council member Jeff Peterson said that Wildgen could provide guidance in other areas, one of the primary reasons Wildgen was hired was to work on the city’s 2010 budget.
“It’s an interesting, challenging time, but it always is for cities at this time of year,” Wildgen said.
Council president Maria Nelson said the council was pleased to have finally hired an interim administrator.
Wildgen currently is interim director of Watkins Community Museum of History in Lawrence, which is a part-time position. He said he would retain his position with Watkins.
The council contacted Wildgen after Cheryl Beatty resigned her position as city administrator April 15.
Wildgen will begin his duties Monday.
