DEBA soldiers on despite construction setbacks

September 4, 2008

The Downtown Eudora Business association cancelled what would have been the first Taste of Eudora due to lack of people who could work the event.

Then they had to postpone a history contest that would be done in conjunction with Eudora USD 491 students because of the lack of sidewalks in downtown.

It's been that kind of summer for the DEBA, but President Tina Montgomery said they would keep moving forward and continue to try to figure out events that will bring patrons to the businesses in downtown.

"We just have to take it day-by-day to know what's best sometimes," Montgomery said.

They now are in the planning stages of a downtown trick-or-treat and the possibility of hayrides during Halloween.

Christmas festivities also are in the works, with the possibility of businesses hosting open houses and carriage rides.

The DEBA also will begin having their monthly meetings at City Hall at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings beginning Sept. 24.
